Mozambique’s Minister of Transportation and Logistics, João Matlombe, has been participating since Tuesday, March 10, in the international conference “Transforming Transportation 2026,” organized by the World Bank in Washington, D.C., in the United States.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the meeting is taking place at the World Bank headquarters from March 9 to 13, under the theme “Powering Jobs and Growth,” bringing together world leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss the role of the transport sector in promoting economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development.
During the event, João Matlombe participated in Plenary Session 3, dedicated to the theme of Safe, Clean, and Accessible Mobility, which analyzes ways to make transportation systems safer, reduce air pollution, and ensure accessible and reliable travel for access to employment and essential services.
At the session, the minister shared the panel with Becky Bavinger, from the Global Public Health Department at Bloomberg Philanthropies, Chandra Bdr. Gurung, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Bhutan, and Mohamed Mezghani, Secretary General of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).
Throughout the Transforming Transportation 2026 conference, experts from different regions of the world present examples of how investments in smarter, safer, and more sustainable transportation systems can increase economic productivity, strengthen the resilience of cities, and contribute to the achievement of global climate goals.
