The Government activated this Wednesday, March 8, the red alert following the forecast of the entry of cyclone Freddy in the Mozambican channel, as of March 10 and 11.
The measure, according to the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, aims at making actions more flexible in order to minimise the impacts of this natural phenomenon.
In parallel, the mass dissemination of messages is being done to sensitize the population to withdraw from risk areas.
In order to contain possible damage, rescue equipment is being pre-positioned, and accommodation centres are being opened to shelter possible victims.
The authorities estimate that over 900,000 people could be affected by Cyclone Freddy in Mozambique.
On the other hand, in response to the request for information from the parliamentary benches on the impact of floods that hit some parts of the country, the Government revealed that the National Emergency Operation Centre (CENOE) has been reinforced to disseminate alerts, warnings and preventive measures for disasters during this rainy season.

“The emergency operative centres, at the level of the provinces and districts, are counting on assistance from members of the Council of Ministers,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the Government is monitoring the impact of the rain and floods and continues to provide humanitarian assistance to about 80,000 people.
