The Mozambican Government does not guarantee the payment of the 13th salary to State employees and agents this year. The Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, said this Monday, 28 November, in Maputo, that the final decision will be known after an assessment of the financial impacts is made.
Max Tonela explained that the issue of the 13th salary for the public sector is hostage to the availability of funds, especially after the confusion that characterised the implementation of the Single Wage Table (TSU).
“The work is going on, the evaluation commissions are doing their work, and after all the impacts have been evaluated, decisions will be made. Nothing has yet been decided in relation to this,” said the Minister of Economy and Finance.
On the other hand, speaking about the resumption of gas exploration activities by oil company Total, in Afungi, in Cabo Delgado province, Max Tonela reaffirmed that everything depends on safety conditions.
“We have permanent contacts with the Area 1 partners, who have been monitoring the evolution of the security situation in Cabo Delgado and, from the first moment, the agreement is that, as soon as the sustainability and security conditions are established, the concessionaires take the decision to start up the activities,” the minister explained.
Tonela added that “the government has been working with all stakeholders to safeguard the foundations of the projects, so that, when the time comes, there may be conditions to resume construction work, including commitments with lenders.”
