The Council of Ministers approved, this Tuesday, April 26th the new minimum wages based on the performance of each economic activity sector.
According to the communication, the lowest salary goes from 4 829 meticais to 5 200 meticais, an adjustment of 371 meticais.
However the Government recognizes that the readjustments do not respond to the high cost of living, “but it is what is possible” within the current macroeconomic environment.
On the other hand, in relation to the single salary table in the Civil Service, Filimão Suaze, spokesperson for the Council of Ministers said that the salary readjustments are “historical” and will come into force in June.
It should be recalled that the cost of living in Mozambique is getting worse every day, and the basic basket defined by the Organization of Mozambican Workers (OTM-Central Union) is around 19 thousand meticais.
