Government Approves Adjustment Mechanisms for Drinking Water Supply Tariffs

The Council of Ministers on Tuesday approved a decree defining mechanisms for indexing and adjusting average reference tariffs for the public service of drinking water supply.

The government spokesman, Filimão Suázi, told journalists at the end of the eighteenth ordinary session of the Council of Ministers that the decree is aimed at public and private water supply systems.

The systems comprise the production, distribution, and sale of drinking water in the national territory.

Filimão Suázi presents the main objectives of the decree regarding the adjustment of tariffs for the public water supply service.

“Ensure the availability of water in quantity and quality and the continuity of the service provided to the consumer; Improve the systems by investing in the reduction of losses, relieving the pressure on the State Budget; Support the water supply systems of less sustainability and finally increase the coverage of water supply in alignment with the government’s strategy for universalization of the service and achieving the goals of the sustainable development goals,” he said.

In the session, the government also set the minimum purchase prices to the producer of seed cotton and the cotton ginning rate, to be in effect in the 2020/2021 campaign.
