FIPAAS and WaterAid Sign MoU to Strengthen Mozambique’s Water and Sanitation Sector

The Water and Sanitation Patrimony Investment Fund (FIPAAS) and WaterAid Mozambique have formalised a cooperation agreement aimed at advancing the sustainable development of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector in Mozambique, through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that establishes a strategic collaboration framework between the two institutions, according to Integrity Magazine.

The signing ceremony took place at the pavilion of the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources (MOPHRH), on the sidelines of the Mozambique Agro-industrial, Commercial and Industrial Fair (FACIM), on Friday, 4 September. The event was led by FIPAAS Board Chairman Miguel Micas Langa and WaterAid Mozambique Country Director Gaspar Sitefane, who signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.

The MoU comes at what both parties describe as a strategically significant moment for the sector, characterised by the urgent need to accelerate investment, strengthen institutional capacity, improve systems sustainability, and ensure water and sanitation services capable of responding to the social, economic, and environmental challenges facing the country.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two institutions will cooperate across a number of priority areas, including support for the development and implementation of ProÁguaS — the National Compact for Water Security — as well as resource mobilisation and sector financing, institutional strengthening and capacity development, promotion of innovation and knowledge sharing, and the enhancement of efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of water supply and sanitation systems.
