Tax Authority: Gross Collection Has Risen to 338B Meticals in Recent Years

The Mozambican Tax Authority (AT) has announced that it has seen an increase in gross collections over the period 2015-23, from 158.5 billion meticals to 338 billion.

According to the organisation’s president, Amélia Muendane, this increase is related to the tax reforms implemented in recent years, which have contributed to broadening the tax base and improving processes, ensuring the simplification of revenue collection mechanisms.

“During this period, income taxes have made the biggest contribution,” she emphasised on Wednesday (14), during the event to launch the Whistleblowing Platform.

According to her, the tool aims to offer taxpayers and the general public a means of reporting irregularities that occur within the tax system.

“This initiative is part of the reinforcement of measures for the transparency of officials and for service users and all interested parties to be able to expose irregularities without having to go to the AT’s organisational units,” she clarified.

Muendane added that “complaints will ensure not only the efficiency of the tax system, but also that the AT is free from offences”.
