The Public Prosecutor’s Office, in partnership with the Centre for the Development of Finance Information Systems (CEDSIF), launched this Wednesday (18) the electronic asset declaration service (e-DB), a digital platform that will allow civil servants to submit their asset declarations in a simpler and more efficient way.
According to Radio Moçambique, through this new platform, around 4,000 civil servants will be able to declare their assets annually, without the need to travel, thus facilitating the process of inspection and monitoring of the evolution of their assets by the competent authorities.
The creation of this system follows the revision of the Public Probity Law, which aims to strengthen integrity and transparency in public service.
Developed by CEDSIF, the platform was designed in 2021 as a response to the challenges posed by the covid-19 pandemic, with the aim of modernising administrative processes and ensuring greater efficiency.
According to João Alguineiro, CEDSIF’s executive director, the partnership between the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the centre will make it possible to ‘increase the effectiveness of the services provided, offering greater flexibility in the processing of cases and promoting the use of technological tools in the public sector’.
As well as making it possible to file asset declarations electronically, the platform will also make it possible to organise, consult and monitor declared assets, and will be accessible to duly accredited entities.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, digitising this process will help prevent conflicts of interest, illicit enrichment and other forms of corruption, promoting greater accountability in the public service.
The system was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which emphasised its potential to strengthen integrity and transparency in the Mozambican public service. The agency emphasises that the use of the digital platform could reduce corrupt practices and guarantee more efficient management of the information provided in asset declarations.
With this innovation, the Public Prosecutor’s Office aims to ensure that the asset declaration process is more accessible, secure and transparent, promoting public trust in state institutions and strengthening mechanisms to combat corruption.
