The Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, warned on Friday (6) in Tete that the violent demonstrations that took place after the 9 October elections are having a negative impact on the country’s tax revenues, Radio Moçambique reported .
According to Nyusi, this situation is also ‘jeopardising current expenditure and public investment in various sectors that are essential for national development.’
Nyusi made these statements after inaugurating the electricity network at the Chioco administrative post, in the district of Changara (Tete), a project valued at 141 million meticals.
During his speech, he emphasised that ‘the destruction of social and economic infrastructure as a result of the demonstrations further aggravates the challenges facing Mozambique, which is already under pressure from the terrorism affecting the province of Cabo Delgado,’ in the north of the country.
The head of state emphasised that stability is crucial to guarantee the continuity of investments and the reconstruction of damaged infrastructures, which are essential for the country’s economic growth.
