Government Project to Reform Mozambique’s Fiscal Management Budgeted at $84M

The Mozambican government today announced a project to manage public resources and provide services, an initiative budgeted at around 84 million dollars (81 million euros), as part of economic reforms.

‘This strategic initiative aims to improve fiscal management, budget execution and transparency in the administration of public resources, boosting the quality of services offered to the population,’ said a statement from the Ministry of Finance released today.

The Public Resource Management for Service Delivery Project (Gepres) will be implemented in partnership with the International Development Association (IDA, World Bank) and the Multi-Donor Fund, supporting reforms in public finances and fiscal decentralisation.

‘The aim of Gepres is to improve internal fiscal management, budget execution, transparency and accountability in the use of public resources, in line with the goals of sustainable development and effective governance,’ he added.

The amount involved will be applied in various components, with 42 million dollars (40 million euros) going towards strengthening the capacity to provide and control revenue, 17 million dollars (16 million euros) towards transparency in public finances and 12 million dollars (11.5 million euros) towards improving external audits, the note adds.

‘With these pillars, Gepres aims to create a solid foundation for fiscal governance, enabling a direct positive impact on the lives of citizens,’ adds the Ministry of Finance.
