Government Identifies Digitalization as a “Solution to Facilitate” Tax Payment

The Mozambican government is investing in digitalization as a means to improve access to financial services, boost the economy, and ensure closer interaction between public institutions and citizens. The position was expressed this Friday (July 4) in Maputo by the Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Américo Muchanga, during the opening of the International Conference on the Digitalization of Inclusive Communities.

According to the minister, the technological modernization efforts aim to make public services more accessible at the community level, promoting digital inclusion and administrative efficiency.

“The government is investing in the digitalization of public institutions to allow citizens to access services from their own communities,” he stated.

Muchanga emphasized that digitalization should facilitate, among other aspects, the payment of taxes, access to administrative services, and secure hearings, minimizing the risk of cyberattacks. He also noted that the expansion of digital services could create job opportunities, promote entrepreneurship, and shorten the distance to State decision-making and service centers.

The International Conference on the Digitalization of Inclusive Communities, taking place in Maputo, is organized by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Transformation, in coordination with the Joint Program for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UNICEF, and the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Mozambique.

The event aims to foster reflection and exchange of experiences on the transformative role of digitalization in improving public service delivery, strengthening citizen participation, and promoting inclusive local development. It brings together representatives from government institutions, the private sector, development partners, academia, civil society, and international experts.

Through thematic sessions and best-practice presentations, participants are discussing innovative solutions and collaborative strategies to expand equitable access to digital technologies and strengthen digital governance systems.
