At a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday 5 December, the Mozambican government approved a draft law to broaden the tax base and simplify tax payment procedures.
“The proposed law aims to update and adjust Law 2/2006 to the changes taking place in the different economic and social sectors, simplify procedures and broaden the tax base,” the government said in a statement after the weekly session of the Council of Ministers.
The instrument being revised establishes the general principles and rules of the Mozambican tax legal system applicable to all national and local taxes, the statement said, without giving details, adding that the proposal to amend the law will still have to be approved by the Assembly of the Republic.
The statement also announces the resignation of Julião João Cumbane as chairman of the board of directors of the National Science and Technology Parks Company and his replacement by Ernesto Sulumide Zobra.
Also at Tuesday’s session, the Executive considered information on the epidemiological situation of cholera and prevention and control measures, as well as the Emprega Programme, an initiative aimed at boosting employment.
