Ethiopian Airlines to Launch Nacala–Addis Ababa Route Three Times Weekly

Ethiopian Airlines is to strengthen its presence in Mozambique with the launch of a new passenger route to Nacala from 27 October, operating three flights per week. Nacala will become the carrier's third destination in the country, after Maputo and Beira.

According to a statement reviewed by Diário Económico, the new service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Flights will connect Addis Ababa to Nacala with a stopover in Blantyre, Malawi.

Flight ET875 will depart Addis Ababa at 09:20, arriving in Blantyre at 12:15. Following a one-hour stopover, the aircraft will resume its journey at 13:15, landing in Nacala at 14:20. The return to Addis Ababa is scheduled to depart at 15:10, arriving at 20:05.

The new route will integrate Nacala into the Ethiopian Airlines network, widely regarded as the largest air transport network operating on the African continent. The airline aims to connect Nacala to a broader range of international destinations within its global network.

"As a pan-African airline, expanding our presence in Mozambique with a third destination is truly a proud moment for us," said Mesfin Tasew, Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines.

"The launch of this flight will further strengthen the bond between the people of Mozambique and Ethiopia," Tasew added, underscoring the significance of the new route in bringing the two countries closer together.

Ethiopian Airlines describes Nacala as an important hub for commerce and tourism, and expects the new route to enhance the city's economic, commercial, and diplomatic connectivity. "With this flight, we will bring our award-winning service to Nacala, connecting the city to our global network," Tasew said.

The airline added that it will continue working to close connectivity gaps across Africa and to bring different parts of the continent closer to the rest of the world. Ethiopian Airlines operates Africa's largest aviation network, serving more than 65 destinations across the continent with a young and modern fleet.
