Economic Recovery Plan: Companies Damaged by Recent Violence Can Operate Free of Charge in Beluluane Park

Companies affected by the recent episodes of violence in Maputo province will have free access to the Beluluane Industrial Park (PIB) until December this year, as part of an economic recovery plan.

The measure is the result of the ‘Industry for All’ project, formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed this Wednesday (5) between the provincial executive council and MozParks, aimed at mitigating the damage caused by looting and destruction during the demonstrations.

Speaking at the launch of the ‘Maputo Parks’ initiative and the ‘Industry for All’ project, the managing director of MozParks, Honório Boane, explained the conditions for membership and the benefits offered to entrepreneurs.

‘We want to make the infrastructure of the Beluluane Industrial Estate available to entrepreneurs on extremely favourable terms. Under this initiative, it will be possible to operate practically free of charge,’ said Boane.

He added that companies affected directly or indirectly by the protests, which have been taking place since October last year, will be able to benefit from an exemption of more than 90 per cent on the fees usually charged.

For his part, the governor of Maputo province, Manuel Tule, emphasised that this measure is part of actions to boost the recovery of the local economy, which has been seriously damaged by the instability.

‘The initiative covers both the free zone areas and those that don’t belong to the park’s free zone, providing opportunities for companies to re-establish themselves and expand their operations, creating jobs and boosting the country’s economy,’ said Tule.

He also underlined that the reduction in financial barriers created by the project will contribute to a favourable environment for the growth of the business sector.

Created 24 years ago, the Beluluane Industrial Park has established itself as one of Mozambique’s main industrial hubs and plays a strategic role in the country’s industrialisation process.
