Commander of Rwanda Forces: “Terrorists Will Never Return to Mocimboa da Praia”

The commander of the Rwandan forces in Mozambique, Maj-Gen Eugene Nkubito, believes that the islamist terrorists will never return to Mocímboa de Praia, one of the epicentres of the violence that has been plaguing the northern province of Cabo Delgado since 2017.

According to Nkubito, cited in Thursday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Mocambique”, the terrorists will no longer return as they did in the past when they occupied the district for almost two years.

He guaranteed that the security cordon established around Mocímboa da Praia town is secure. “The joint actions involving Rwandan and Mozambican forces are still going strong in the hunt for terrorists”, he said.

But the commander was making these statements at a time when there are reports of terrorists circulating in the villages of Chuculua, Malinde, Marere, Makulo and Mitope. Mitope village was attacked last Saturday, with two villagers murdered and another two injured.

In these villages, writes the newssheet, the terrorists are trying to convince the population to discredit the government forces and their allies.
