Civil Service: Government Says It Has Paid 99% of Salaries

The Ministry of Economy and Finance guarantees that it has already paid 99% of salaries to state employees and agents, with the remainder not having received their salaries due to inconsistent documentation in the payment system, O País reported on Monday 7 August.

The newspaper’s website quotes the national director of Public Accounting, Manuel Matavel, who said that some members of the Defence and Security Forces have not yet received their salaries because documents are missing, without which the payroll system does not process salaries.

The official explained that the situation is due to the process of integrating military, police and other Defence personnel into the national payroll system. In the integration exercise of these employees, it was noted the absence of some documents such as the Unique Tax Identification Number (NUIT) and the Bank Identification Number (NIB), important instruments for the salary payment process.
