Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has arrived in New York, United States, where, in addition to attending the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), he is scheduled to meet with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva as part of an agenda that includes engagements with international financial institutions and the private sector.
The information was disclosed by Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Maria dos Santos Lucas to the press upon the President's arrival in New York.
According to the minister, the meeting with the IMF Managing Director forms part of Chapo's programme for 22 and 23 September, which also includes meetings with other international financial institutions and private sector representatives.
"The President will have activities not only at the United Nations, but also with the private sector and international financial institutions, including with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund," Maria Lucas said.
The Presidency did not provide details on the specific issues to be discussed during the meeting with the IMF chief.
Beyond the economic agenda, Chapo is expected to present Mozambique's experience in promoting peace and development, with particular focus on the Inclusive National Dialogue.
The programme also includes the launch of the English-language edition of Chapo's autobiography, titled From Captivity to the Presidency, as well as a courtesy meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, whose mandate is approaching its end.
