The United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Mozambique reported a 1.5% increase in profits in 2025, reaching approximately 15 million dollars, according to the institution’s financial statements.
According to Lusa, this performance was driven by the expansion of banking income, fueled by growth in the securities portfolio and an increase in customer deposits—factors that helped strengthen the bank’s revenue-generating capacity.
“The expansion of banking income was supported by growth in the securities portfolio, reflecting the increase in customer deposits and an efficient resource allocation strategy. On the other hand, the decline in net service and commission income moderated this growth,” states the institution’s report.
In the previous fiscal year, the bank had reported profits of approximately $14.8 million, which represented, at the time, a 37.9% increase over the previous year. The financial statements also indicate that UBA’s total assets grew by 15.3% in 2025, reaching approximately $263 million, reflecting the strengthening of its financial position in the Mozambican market.
In contrast, the loan portfolio granted to customers decreased by 16.6%, settling at approximately $25 million, while customer deposits increased by 9.3%, to about $173 million.
The evolution of these indicators resulted in a decrease in the deposit-to-loan ratio, which fell from 19% to 14%, reflecting a more conservative approach to lending.
The bank ended the fiscal year with a non-performing loan ratio of 1.52% and increased its coverage of this risk to 89.43%, an indicator that demonstrates a greater capacity to absorb potential losses.
According to the institution, these results reflect a prudent policy for managing liquidity, the loan portfolio, and investments, as well as efforts to strengthen the infrastructure supporting the business, including IT security systems.
At the end of 2025, UBA had 25,944 customers, seven branches located in the cities of Maputo, Beira, and Nampula, and a staff of 139 employees.
With a presence in 21 African countries and more than 33 million customers, the UBA Group continues to expand its operations on the continent, maintaining a strategy focused on diversifying revenue streams and strengthening the financial soundness of its operations.
