Together, the world’s 50 largest banks hold $101.6 trillion in assets, a figure that is close to global public debt, estimated at $111 trillion in 2025.
Chinese banks dominate the ranking, with state-owned institutions occupying the top four positions: ICBC, Agricultural Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Bank of China. Together, these four banks hold $25.5 trillion, equivalent to around one quarter of the total $101.6 trillion held by the world’s 50 largest banks.
JPMorgan Chase ranks fifth in terms of assets but remains the most valuable bank in the world by market capitalisation.
The chart ranks the 50 largest banks in the world by total assets, based on data from Companies Market Cap, updated as of 15 April 2026. The figures represent each bank’s total assets in the most recent reporting period and include cash and cash equivalents, loans issued, investments, property and equipment.
