Mozambique’s Financial Access Network Tops 500,000 Points in Q1 2026

Mozambique recorded 505,316 financial access points in the first quarter of 2026, according to data published jointly by the Bank of Mozambique (BdM) and the Insurance Supervision Institute of Mozambique (ISSM).

The figures are contained in a report on the distribution of financial services access points across Mozambique’s 154 districts, published on 17 July. The document shows that non-bank agents of electronic money institutions account for the largest share, with 467,622 access points.

The report also records 31,433 point-of-sale (POS) terminals, 3,632 microcredit operators, 1,306 automated teller machines (ATMs), and 650 bank branches.

The network further includes 314 bank agents, 279 insurance institutions, and 80 microbank and credit cooperative branches. Across all eight categories, the total reaches 505,316 financial access points for the first quarter of 2026.

Non-bank agents of electronic money institutions represent 92.5% of the total, with the remaining 7.5% distributed across the other seven categories.

The document also presents the breakdown of these access points by each of the country’s 154 districts, specifying the number of bank branches, microbanks and credit cooperatives, bank agents, e-money agents, microcredit operators, insurance institutions, ATMs, and POS terminals.

Although the national network surpassed the half-million mark in the first quarter of 2026, the BdM’s most recent financial inclusion data indicate that expansion continues to be marked by territorial disparities, particularly in the demographic and geographic coverage of the northern provinces and Zambézia.
