Moza Banco and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have launched a €10 million credit facility to support businesses in Mozambique, with 40% of the total amount reserved for enterprises with significant female participation in ownership, management, or their supply chains.
According to a Moza Banco statement, the credit line is being made available by the EIB and will be operationalised by the Mozambican financial institution, covering businesses of varying sizes from microenterprises to medium-sized companies.
The financing will focus on three sectors considered priorities for the national economy: agriculture and agro-processing, construction and infrastructure, and technology and digital services.
The launch took place during a forum titled 'Challenges and Solutions for Women Entrepreneurs', held at Moza Banco's headquarters in Maputo, which brought together businesswomen, business associations, institutional partners, and representatives from the EIB and GOPA AFC.
In addition to credit, the operation includes a technical assistance programme designed to support the financial inclusion of women entrepreneurs. Implemented by GOPA AFC between 2025 and 2027 and funded by the European Union and the EIB, the programme provides training, financial literacy sessions, sectoral workshops, and support for companies preparing to access financing.
Moza Banco's Retail Director, Sheila Ronda, said businesses led by women have growth potential but continue to face difficulties accessing financing. 'In Mozambique there are solid companies, led by women, that do not grow simply because the financing instruments were not designed with them in mind,' she said.
According to Ronda, the 40% allocation within the facility seeks to address existing imbalances in the financial market. 'We are not granting a favour — we are correcting an inefficiency in the economy itself,' she stated.
The new credit line is also linked to the Moza Women project, launched in 2024, which brings together financial and non-financial solutions aimed at strengthening women's participation in the economy, complementing initiatives the bank already pursues within the small and medium enterprise segment.
