Mozambique recorded 505,316 financial service access points in the first quarter of 2026, according to data from the Bank of Mozambique (BdM) and the Mozambique Insurance Supervision Institute (ISSM).
The figures are contained in a report on the distribution of financial service access points across Mozambique’s 154 districts, published on 17 July. The report shows that non-bank agents of electronic money institutions account for the largest share of the network, with 467,622 access points.
The report also records 31,433 point-of-sale (POS) terminals, 3,632 microcredit operators, 1,306 automated teller machines (ATMs) and 650 bank branches.
The network further includes 314 banking agents, 279 insurance institutions, and 80 microbank and credit cooperative branches. Together, these eight categories total 505,316 financial service access points during the first quarter of 2026.
Non-bank agents of electronic money institutions account for 92.5% of the total network, while the remaining 7.5% is distributed across the other seven categories.
The report also provides a district-by-district breakdown of these access points across all 154 districts, detailing the number of bank branches, microbanks and credit cooperatives, banking agents, electronic money agents, microcredit operators, insurance institutions, ATMs and POS terminals.
Although the national financial access network surpassed half a million service points in the first quarter of 2026, the latest BdM data on financial inclusion show that its expansion continues to be marked by significant territorial disparities, particularly in demographic and geographic coverage across the northern provinces and Zambézia.
