Absa Mozambique Once Again Named Best Bank for SMEs in 2025

Absa Bank Mozambique was recently awarded “Best Bank for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)” at the International Investors Awards 2025, organized by International Investor Magazine based in London. This marks the bank’s second consecutive recognition in this category; in 2024, the honor came from the renowned British publication Global Banking & Finance Review, according to a statement released by the institution.

Martha Humbane, Director of Business Banking at Absa, emphasized that SMEs are crucial to national development, representing the majority of Mozambique’s business fabric.

“This award highlights our commitment to SME growth. We are a strategic partner in creating success stories, and we believe that our extensive experience in supporting this segment directly impacts the economy and business development, significantly contributing to community well-being.”

With offerings that include tailored credit lines, project financing, and partnerships with specialized entities, the bank empowers SMEs in key areas such as financial management, bookkeeping, taxation, and access to funding.

In February this year, the Government, together with the Mozambican Association of Banks, launched a subsidized credit line worth 10 billion meticais ($156.6 million) to support SMEs affected by the demonstrations that followed the October 2024 elections. Under this initiative, Absa has already disbursed more than 265 million meticais ($4.1 million), directly benefiting hundreds of businesses with more competitive financing conditions.

Beyond financial support, the bank has strongly invested in digital solutions designed to simplify SME banking experiences and improve efficiency.

With over 45 years of presence in Mozambique, Absa Bank Mozambique, S.A. is part of the Absa Group, one of Africa’s largest and most diversified financial groups, headquartered in South Africa and operating in 12 countries.

Listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the Group has about 42,000 employees and pursues the ambition of being the pride of the continent. With a strong Mozambican identity, Absa’s mission is to provide comprehensive financial solutions for businesses, individuals, and SMEs, always with a focus on lasting relationships, proximity, and service excellence.

The recent awards further strengthen the bank’s positioning as a key player in driving business growth in Mozambique and as a benchmark institution in supporting the SME sector.
