Attacks on cargo lorries in South Africa will have a major impact on the flow of goods in Mozambique and on freight rates, which may rise if the situation prevails and, consequently, lead to an increase in the prices of products on the national market.
The warning comes from the Mozambican Federation of Road Transport Associations (FEMATRO), which says it is concerned about the situation and calls for a joint solution from the governments of Mozambique and South Africa to end the problem.
According to the president of this collective, Castigo Nhamane, who was speaking this week on the sidelines of the 36th General Assembly of the International Chamber of Transport Industry (CIT), if the problem prevails, the consequences will be immediate and will also have an impact on the lives of the population.
“We view this situation with great concern and have reached out to the Ministry of Transport and Communications so that the two governments can find a solution to this evil that affects transporters,” he said.
