The Mozambican Tax Authority (AT), has exceeded the revenue collection target by five percentage points during the 2021 financial year, reaching about 278.86 billion Meticais against a budget target of 265.60 billion Meticais.
According to the president of the AT, Amélia Muendane, who was speaking this Monday at the opening of the 1st Ordinary Session of the Extended Directing Council, despite the adverse national political, economic and social situation, the performance of the institution she heads, referring to the 2021 economic year, was positive.
“We feel proud because we collected about 278.86 billion Meticais for the State coffers, which corresponds to a gross achievement of 105.01% in relation to the budget target of 265.60 billion Meticais and a net achievement of 101.00%, which corresponds to the result of the deduction of 16.5% provision for the reimbursement of Value Added Tax under the terms of the Budget Law,” Amélia Muendane said.
Amélia Muendane, also referred that for the achievement in reference, the internal taxes had an aggregate contribution of 204,03 billion meticais which corresponds to 77% of the total tax revenue, having the external taxes contributed with 74,83 billion meticais which corresponds to 23% of the total tax revenue.
For income taxes, Muendane said that these had a performance of 104.74%, thanks to withholdings at source and payments to the final while the Value Added Tax had a performance of 101.29% resulting from the deduction of tax on imports and domestic transactions, and the other domestic taxes had a corresponding performance of 339.87%, influenced by the extraordinary deliveries of stamp duty.
