Mozambique’s National Academy of Aeronautical Sciences (ACA) plans to train and place 790 civil aviation professionals in the market by 2030, as part of its strategy to strengthen the sector’s human capital.
The target was presented on Wednesday, 2 July, by the institution’s director-general, Tuaha Mote, during a lecture on the future of civil aviation training in Mozambique held at the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM 2026).
The plan covers professionals across a range of disciplines, including pilots, air traffic controllers, aeronautical information and communication technicians, cabin crew, and other specialisations.
According to Mote, the ACA also intends to decentralise access to training by taking admission processes to different provinces across the country. “We will go to the provinces so that people become interested in aviation — not only those who live in Maputo,” the director-general said.
The institution regards the domestic training of skilled personnel as essential to meeting the needs of airlines and reducing the costs associated with overseas training.
“It is unsustainable for airlines to send their professionals abroad,” Mote argued.
Among the new areas of training planned are courses for drone pilots, private and commercial pilots, cabin crew, and professionals linked to airport operations.
The academy also intends to modernise its curricula and introduce technologies such as advanced simulators and digital tools. “Professionals need to prepare for the direction that technology is heading and also prepare for the digital transition,” Mote said.
The target of training 790 professionals by 2030 is tied to ACA’s investment programme, which includes new aircraft, simulators, and the modernisation of training facilities.
