ACA to Invest $34M in Aviation Training Infrastructure

Mozambique's National Academy of Aeronautical Sciences (ACA) plans to invest $34 million in the modernisation and expansion of its aviation training infrastructure across the country.

The investment, announced by ACA Director-General Tuaha Mote on Wednesday, 2 July, at the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM 2026), covers the refurbishment of the academy's existing facilities, the construction of a university campus, and the development of a hotel.

"The total investment we have is $34 million. It involves the university campus with all its facilities and the hotel," Mote said.

The project will be executed in phases. The first intervention, planned for this year, will focus on the refurbishment of the academy's current building, with the goal of preparing classrooms to begin training pilots and cabin crew.

"This year, if all goes well, we will begin the refurbishment of the building where we are currently based. We will prepare rooms to start training pilots and cabin crew," Mote explained.

In addition to the construction works, ACA intends to acquire an air traffic control simulator. Mote confirmed that financing for the equipment has already been secured, and the institution is expected to launch an international tender for its procurement.

"The air traffic control simulator — we already have the financing guaranteed," he said.

To accelerate project delivery, the academy is also open to partnerships with the private sector and other public entities. "We are open to public-private and public-public partnership arrangements," Mote added.

The modernisation programme aims to strengthen Mozambique's domestic capacity for aeronautical training and bring it closer to international standards, reducing the country's reliance on sending aviation professionals abroad for training.

At the same event, ACA reaffirmed its target of training and placing 790 aviation professionals in the market by 2030, covering disciplines including piloting, air traffic control, airport operations, and cabin crew services.
