Mozambique will receive, until next May, 1.7 million doses of vaccines against covid-19, under the COVAX initiative, for the national vaccination campaign in course in the country.
The fact was announced by the Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago, when he was responding to questions from the deputies of the Parliament, on the second and last day of the executive report.
Tiago stressed that in the subsequent phases of the vaccination campaign the country will immunize all citizens. “We want to say that until May, we will receive 1.7 million vaccines from the COVAX mechanism,” he announced.
The vaccinated person, if by chance is contaminated will not be able to develop severe forms of the disease or death, so even after the vaccination it is essential to continue to check the preventive measures, because minors and pregnant women will not be able to take, he stressed.
“We want to remind the MPs that Africa has 54 countries. Mozambique is the seventh country to receive vaccines from China, is the 13th African country to start with the vaccination campaign and the 15th to receive immunizers under the COVAX initiative, because the country is firm in the fight against Covid-19,” he said.
Tiago explained that the inpatient capacity of Polana-Canço General Hospital is 120 beds, 320 beds in Mavalane General Hospital and 214 in Maputo Central Hospital, with an occupation rate of 49% in HCM and 28% in Maputo province, so the ward of Mavalane has not yet opened.
Still in this sector, Tiago assured the repair within 90 days, of the tomography machine broken down at the Central Hospital of Quelimane. Each province received a digital X-Ray machine, to substitute the analogical ones, whose material is scarce in the market.
“The students, teachers and administrative staff members infected by covid-19, during the reopening of schools, is not related to contamination in educational institutions, so it was ordered the reopening of classes,” he stressed.
He also spoke about the rehabilitation of the morgue chambers of Maputo Central Hospital, and of the general hospitals and several health centers.
