The Mozambican President, Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Wednesday 22 May, during a telephone call with Filipe Nyusi, that Mozambique can be considered an important logistical link for the supply of Ukrainian cereals and other foodstuffs to various African countries, saying that he is willing to cooperate with the country in the area of agriculture.
‘I had a productive telephone conversation with the head of state of Mozambique in which, among other things, we talked about the recent opening of the Ukrainian Embassy in Maputo. I am convinced that this action will contribute to the development of relations between our nations,’ said the Ukrainian leader, quoted by the Ukrainian National News Agency (Ukrinform).
According to the publication, Zelensky recalled that his country exports cereals to the national territory, adding that he is willing to share his experience in agriculture, since ‘Mozambique can also be an important logistical link in the supply of Ukrainian food to other African countries’.
‘Food security will be one of the main topics to be addressed at the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, so Mozambique’s participation in the event is important for Ukraine,’ he emphasised.
The Global Peace Summit will be held on 15 and 16 June, and heads of state and government from all continents are expected to take part. They will draw up a joint negotiating position to be delivered to Russia.
