Zambézia: More than 14,000 Abandoned Antiretroviral Therapy in Q1

More than 14,000 patients in Zambézia province have abandoned antiretroviral treatment in the first quarter of this year.

The provincial supervisor of the HIV Program in Zambézia, Cheinaze Veríssimo, indicates prejudice as the probable cause of the high proportion of men among the patients who abandon treatment.

In Zambézia, more than 300,000 patients infected with HIV/AIDS are receiving antiretroviral care at the 268 health units providing HIV treatment there.

To reach patients who are unable to get to health units, the Provincial Health Directorate has strategies such as the delivery of medicines at home, Verissimo notes.
