Kia has unveiled the EV9 GT, the high-performance variant of its large electric SUV, equipped with dual electric motors, all-wheel drive, and 508 horsepower. The model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, combining sporting performance with the space and comfort expected of a family vehicle.
The EV9 GT is powered by a 99.8 kWh battery and an 800-volt electrical architecture designed to support rapid charging. According to Kia, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes when connected to a compatible fast charger. The announced range reaches 510 kilometres, though real-world figures may vary depending on factors such as speed, temperature, driving style, vehicle load, and climate system usage.
To enhance driving dynamics, Kia has fitted the EV9 GT with a range of dedicated components, including electronically controlled suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD), 21-inch alloy wheels, and an uprated braking system. The front brake callipers are finished in neon green and bear the GT inscription, one of the visual details that distinguish this variant from the rest of the EV9 range.
Among the model's key technological features is a road preview system. Using a forward-facing camera and sensors, the vehicle is able to anticipate certain road surface irregularities ahead. The data collected is then used by the electronic suspension system to adjust the vehicle's behaviour to prevailing road conditions, with the aim of improving both comfort and control simultaneously.
Despite being fully electric, the EV9 GT seeks to replicate some of the sensations traditionally associated with high-performance combustion-engined vehicles. The model is equipped with a Virtual Gear Shift system that simulates the operation of an automatic gearbox. Through paddles mounted behind the steering wheel, the driver can simulate gear changes while driving.
The 800-volt electrical architecture enables rapid charging and reduces the time required to replenish range during a journey.
The experience is further complemented by Active Sound Design, a system that reproduces sounds associated with gear changes and acceleration inside the cabin. The technology does not alter the functioning of the electric motor, but aims to make the driving experience more engaging for those behind the wheel, bringing it closer to that of a conventional high-performance vehicle.
The sporting character is also reflected in the interior. The EV9 GT receives bespoke seats upholstered in leather and suede, with neon green detailing that extends to the steering wheel and other interior elements. The GT logo is integrated into the seats, while on the exterior, a new digital lighting grille displays Energetic patterns.
Despite these changes, the model retains the family-oriented character of the EV9. A three-row seating configuration allows for multiple passengers, combining the practicality of a family SUV with the performance credentials of a high-performance electric vehicle. Kia's proposition is therefore to offer a car that is equally suited to daily use and long-distance travel, reconciling family functionality with more dynamic driving.
The 800-volt electrical architecture supports rapid charging, reducing the time needed to recover range on longer journeys. With a 99.8 kWh battery and an announced range of up to 510 kilometres, the SUV has been engineered to cover significant distances between charging stops.
This combination of battery capacity, fast-charging capability, and range is intended to address one of the primary concerns among electric vehicle users: the time required for charging during trips.
According to the company, the suggested retail price of the Kia EV9 GT starts at €95,090, and the model is already available to order in Portugal. For private customers, the starting price is likewise €95,090, while for corporate buyers it begins at €85,990. Kia also intends to bring the model to additional markets, expanding its line-up of high-performance electric vehicles.
