The World Food Programme (WFP) needs about US$18 million per month to assist over one million people who are victims of the terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado province.
The WFP National Director, Antonella D’Aprile, told journalists on Monday 24 October in Maputo that the programme needs about US$18 million a month to assist over a million victims of terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado province.
The WFP’s national director, Antonella D’Aprile, was speaking to journalists moments after meeting with the deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gonçalves.
“We are carrying out various activities in order to reduce the impact of the terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado, but the aid has to increase because the availability is not sustainable. We need almost $18 million every month to assist the victims of terrorism in Cabo Delgado,” he said.
In June, the US government made a donation of US$29.5 million to support humanitarian food assistance to the people of northern Mozambique, who are facing an armed insurgency.
