The United States of America (USA) intends to strengthen cooperation with Mozambique in higher education, with the aim of increasing access for Mozambican students to American universities, particularly in the fields of science, technology, Artificial Intelligence and public health.
The intention was announced in a statement released by the US Embassy in Mozambique, which highlighted its interest in expanding academic opportunities for high-achieving Mozambican students.
“Our common goal is to see a greater number of talented Mozambican students gain admission to US colleges and universities,” the statement, quoted by Lusa, reads.
The strengthening of cooperation was discussed during a meeting between the US Embassy’s Public Diplomacy Counsellor in Mozambique, Nafeesah Allen, and the Director-General of the Mozambique Scholarship Institute (IBE), Carla Caomba.
According to the information released, the meeting aimed to identify practical ways of cooperation between IBE and EducationUSA, a network supported by the US Government that provides information and guidance on study opportunities in the United States.
The statement further noted that American universities have expressed interest in establishing memoranda of understanding, recruitment partnerships and scientific cooperation agreements with Mozambican institutions, contributing to the training of skilled professionals and the development of the national workforce.
The US Embassy also stated that students interested in areas considered strategic for Mozambique’s development, including science, technology, artificial intelligence and public health, may benefit from academic opportunities in the United States through a cooperation framework designed to strengthen educational and economic ties between the two countries.
