UNDP Supports SDGs in Mozambique With Nearly $1M Investment

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is investing around 1 million dollars in different provinces of the country, with a view to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2020-30.

The initiative, according to the chief technical advisor for the Decentralisation programme in Mozambique at the UNDP, who was speaking this Monday (13) in Maputo during the annual meeting of the Reference Groups, aims to promote decentralisation in the provinces of Manica, Sofala, Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa, especially in the areas of health, education and access to drinking water.

According to Cristino Lopez, the implementation of the SDG projects is progressing well, although there are some challenges on the ground, pointing to the search for complementary funding as the main obstacle.

“The implementation of projects to achieve the SDGs in different provinces of the country lasts a year,” he said.

The aim of the annual meeting of the Provincial Reference Groups is to assess the current stage of implementation of the projects that will help the government in the Decentralisation process to achieve the UNDP Goals.
