More than 30 foreign ministers from around the world will attend, this Tuesday, March 7, the open debate on “Women, Peace and Security”, promoted by Mozambique, as part of its monthly mandate as president of the United Nations Security Council (UN).
For the session, there are at least 80 subscribers who should take the floor after the presentation of the theme by the Mozambican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Veronica Macamo, who is already at the UN headquarters in New York.
Verónica Macamo, quoted by Radio Mozambique (RM), said that in her speech she intends to draw the world’s attention to the need to end the conflicts that have been undermining the development of countries and, consequently, of women and children.
“Women, Peace and Security was the theme chosen by Mozambique in the middle of the year of celebration of 23 years of the UN Security Council resolution 1325, which establishes the need for urgent reflection on the effects of conflicts on women and girls,” said the governor.
Tuesday’s open debate is the first of two major events promoted under Mozambique’s monthly rotating presidency. It is expected to last all day, with only one break in between, unlike the other routine sessions of the Security Council, which traditionally observe no breaks and do not exceed four hours.
