The United Nations (UN) said on Tuesday (9) that Mozambique should be flexible in its responses to crises, particularly climate change and terrorism, because it has all the conditions for development, provided it is able to curb the effects of these phenomena.
Speaking at the farewell meeting after four years as United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mozambique, Myrta Kaulard took the opportunity to assess the progress achieved during the years she was on mission in the country.
“Mozambique’s development can only happen if it has the capacity to respond to crises, because it is exposed to continuous external crises. So it is important to have flexibility and strong capacity to respond to them. The country is developing and we can already see the progress in the field of health, with respect to the climate, and also in the response to the violence in the North.”
The resident coordinator was received by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, in Maputo, and said that during the last talks, “we mentioned the progress of the country regarding the provisioning systems and the alert capacity of the populations to avoid losing human lives. We also talked about the situation in Cabo Delgado which, in recent years, has had a very important evolution.
Myrta Kaulard took over as United Nations resident and humanitarian coordinator in Mozambique in June 2019.
