Mozambique has once again defended dialogue as the only viable way to put an end to the war between Israel and Palestine, which has already left more than 40,000 people dead, most of them women and children. The position was reiterated this Wednesday (9) by Mozambique’s permanent representative to the UN, Domingos Fernandes, during the United Nations Security Council session in New York.
According to the newspaper Noticias, the session was called to discuss the situation in the Middle East, with a special focus on the Gaza Strip, at a time when it marks the first year since the beginning of the conflict, which took place on 7 October 2023.
During his speech, Domingos Fernandes stressed the need to intensify global efforts to bring the warring parties to the negotiating table, underlining that only through dialogue will it be possible to achieve lasting peace.
The Mozambican diplomat also emphasised the importance of strengthening international legislation to ensure that humanitarian aid effectively reaches those most in need in the areas affected by the conflict.
Mozambique’s appeal is in line with the principles of peace and cooperation promoted by the United Nations, reinforcing the importance of dialogue as a fundamental instrument for resolving this protracted conflict.
