The Coca-Cola Foundation has allocated $350,000 to support communities affected by the floods, bolstering a humanitarian response that includes drinking water and essential supplies, in a joint effort with Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, according to a statement from the foundation released on Wednesday, April 22.
According to the statement, the support, which complements a previous grant of $100,000, aims to address immediate needs and support the recovery of affected families, with a focus on the most vulnerable areas impacted by extreme weather events.
Enhanced Humanitarian Support
The information was shared by Layla Jeevanantham, Director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, during the distribution of hygiene and shelter kits to 297 affected families in the Manhiça district of Xinavane.
“Extreme weather events continue to place significant pressure on the most vulnerable communities,” she stated, as quoted in the press release.
She assured that the funds now mobilized are intended to address the most urgent needs on the ground, with a focus on rapid assistance aligned with emergency standards.
“The funds made available are intended to address urgent humanitarian needs and support the initial stages of recovery for affected families,” she stated.
Water, Sanitation, and Recovery
The interventions include access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as the distribution of essential supplies to help stabilize families.
According to Layla Jeevanantham, “through this joint contribution, we aim to strengthen and accelerate response efforts on the ground, in close collaboration with humanitarian partners such as CARE Mozambique.”
She added: “This commitment is part of our broader approach to supporting communities by mobilizing resources and partnerships to respond to emergencies,” while also contributing to building long-term resilience.
For its part, CARE Mozambique welcomed the support, emphasizing, according to the statement, that “timely funding is essential to reach affected populations with vital assistance.”
The organization also noted that the support will help restore basic services in affected communities during a critical phase following the impacts of the floods.
The initiative is part of efforts to respond to natural disasters that have affected the country, seeking to mitigate immediate impacts and support the recovery of families.
