The tourist region of Macaneta beach, in Marracuene district, Maputo province, will have, in the next three months, the first house made entirely of glass. Called Ecocentro, the infrastructure will serve as a stage for the promotion of activities that allow to achieve, locally, a sustainable development.
The integrated environmental unit is an initiative of the Repensar Environmental Cooperative, in partnership with the Marracuene district government, and has the financial support of the Norwegian Embassy.
The three institutions involved in the initiative recently laid the first stone for the construction of the infrastructure, which should be ready within three months.
For environmentalist Carlos Serra, mentor of the project, when a unit is planted locally, through the combination of various components, the results achieved are always greater.
In order to achieve the success of the initiative, Serra is in favor of partnerships with local authorities because, he said, they are fundamental in the pursuit of a certain undertaking. Besides the district of Marracuene, the ecocenters will also be implemented in the cities of Maputo, Matola and in the town of Boane.
According to the environmentalist, the Ecocenters have a strong environmental education component, through a direct link with schools, where the cooperative allocates educators who work with the students.
