COP28: Nyusi Defends Resilience in Development Investments

The Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, said on Friday, 1 December, that the promotion of resilience at national level should be integrated not only into the management and reduction of disaster risk, but also into investments in adaptation and the promotion of development.

Speaking during the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the head of state pointed out that linking early warning to all vulnerable communities is still a major challenge and concern for developing countries.

“We are moving forward with building safe schools and hospitals to respond to climate change issues, especially in prone areas. As a country, we hope that this COP28 will result in bold international financial commitments to galvanise the efforts of developing countries, especially in the area of standardising post-disaster loss and damage assessment. It is necessary to determine the amount to be allocated to the humanitarian response,” he explained.
