The Spanish government, through the Spanish Agency for International Development Co-operation (AECID), has ensured the continuity of funding for the various projects to support the victims of the terrorism that has plagued the northern province of Cabo Delgado since 2017.
According to the director-general of the organisation, Anton Leis Garcia, cooperation between his country and Mozambique is satisfactory and there is interest in strengthening bilateral relations. “In recent years we have already invested around 47 million dollars in implementing many projects, particularly in the areas of climate change and health.”
“Spain has provided assistance in the sectors of Rural Development, Gender Balance, Combating the Impact of Climate Change, Poverty and Hunger, as well as in the fight against corruption,” said Leis Garcia during a meeting with the Mozambican Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gonçalves.
With regard to the situation of instability in northern Mozambique, he said that a delegation would be travelling to Cabo Delgado in the next few days to find out about the conditions and needs of the communities affected by the situation of insecurity.
“We’re going to Cabo Delgado this week to support the province’s institutions in developing sustainable tourism activities. We will provide support through humanitarian aid to villages that have been displaced by the conflict. The idea is to create conditions,” he concluded.
