The National Migration Service (SENAMI) plans to issue 3,000 passports within 30 days as part of an operation aimed at curbing illegal emigration. To this end, a mobile unit has been set up at the main wholesale market in Maputo, with the aim of bringing services closer to citizens and facilitating access to the document.
The initiative was announced by the spokesperson for SENAMI’s provincial office in Maputo, Felizardo Jamaca, who explained the scope of the initiative. According to him, the measure aims to address the difficulties users face in accessing services and ensure greater inclusion in the passport issuance process.
“In 30 days, we expect to serve about 3,000 citizens right here at the wholesale market, as well as their family members, because above all, a passport is a constitutional right, and it is for everyone,” said Felizardo Jamaca.
According to the spokesperson, the choice of location was not random but resulted from a careful process conducted by the institution. The decision took into account the concerns raised by users of that market, particularly regarding difficulties in accessing immigration services.
Felizardo Jamaca emphasized that “meticulous and detailed work” had been done to identify the most suitable location for the mobile brigade. The priority was to ensure greater proximity between the services and the citizens, who, until then, had faced constraints in terms of time and travel.
With this measure, SENAMI also aims to reduce the main barriers associated with accessing its services. Among the identified challenges are bureaucracy, wait times, and distance—factors that hindered the prompt service of citizens.
“All of this is aimed at addressing the issue of illegal migration and reducing the bureaucracy, time, and distance that the services had created between themselves and the public,” explained Felizardo Jamaca, emphasizing the expected impact of the initiative.
