Energias de Portugal, better known as EDP, will provide, through the A2E Fund (Access to Energy), one million Euros to finance projects of access to renewable energy in five African countries, namely Mozambique, Nigeria, Malawi, Kenya and Rwanda.
Organisations that want to apply for the 5th edition of the fund have until 22 May to do so, Energía said in a statement published by Ambiente magazine.
According to the company, the aim of the initiative is to contribute to a fair and inclusive energy transition in remote and more vulnerable communities located in those African countries.
According to the note, EDP also intends to help develop solutions for access to clean and affordable energy that impact key sectors in the lives of communities, continuing the programme started in 2018.
“With this new edition of the A2E Fund, we want to ensure that the most remote and vulnerable communities have access to clean and affordable energy and help them break the cycle of poverty, while contributing to their social and economic development,” said Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, CEO of EDP, quoted in the press release.
The A2E Fund is in its 5th edition, and in the last four, 2.5 million euros were invested and 28 projects were financed, directly impacting the lives of 120,000 people and, indirectly, of around two million.
