On Monday, September 15, in Maputo, Mozambique launched a national consultation aimed at accelerating the country’s energy transition. The initiative is the result of a partnership between the government and the African Platform for Renewable Energy (APRA).
The event marked the beginning of APRA’s engagement with Mozambique, following the country’s accession to the partnership during the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference brought together world leaders to set new environmental commitments.
Several prominent figures attended the opening ceremony, including the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Estevão Pale, ambassadors from APRA partner countries, and other key stakeholders from the energy sector.
Estevão Pale emphasized the importance of the initiative, highlighting that cooperation with APRA could accelerate the achievement of national energy goals. The minister added that Mozambique has significant potential to increase investment in renewable energy sources.
“This cooperation is essential for reaching renewable energy targets in Mozambique,” the minister said at the launch of the consultation. He also noted that the process would gather input from different sectors to support the country’s energy strategy.
The national consultation represents a strategic step for Mozambique’s energy future. APRA’s involvement, combined with the government’s commitment, paves the way for achieving targets that ensure sustainable and secure development for the country.
