Government Maps Concession Areas for Renewable Energy Mini-grids

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, Teodoro Vales, said today, Tuesday, November 6, in Maputo, that the mapping of areas for the concession of renewable energy mini-grids is under way in the country.

Speaking at the opening session of the Business Conference on “Renewables in Mozambique 2022”, the official said that the Executive has been introducing legal reforms in the energy sector to attract investors and that the results are already visible.

“The Government is aware that the participation of the private sector is crucial for the achievement of the national electrification goals, based on new and renewable energies, so we have been signing new partnerships for rapid development,” Vales added.

In his turn, the representative of the European Union (EU) in Mozambique, Antonino Maggiore, announced that the European Union-Mozambique Business Forum would be held in 2023, in the city of Maputo.

Maggiore also noted that, for the period 2021-2024, the European Union and the private sector have allocated close to 900 million euros for investments in the area of renewable energy.

The Business Conference “Renewables in Mozambique 2022,” organised by the Lusophone Renewable Energy Association (ALER) and the Mozambican Renewable Energy Association (AMER), takes place on 6 and 7 December at the Glória Hotel in the city of Maputo, and is attended by several investors from the energy sector and representatives of government companies, among others.
