Globeleq Drives Mozambique’s Energy Transition With Renewables And Gas

Globeleq’s rapid success in Mozambique’s energy sector can be attributed to its strategic partnerships and focus on delivering essential projects, such as the 450-MW Central Térmica de Temane (CTT) gas project.

Through collaborating closely with state utility company EDM, Globeleq has built trust and delivered results in line with the country’s energy transition goals. The inauguration of Mozambique’s first independent power producer (IPP) solar power plant in Cuamba in 2023, which integrated a utility-scale battery storage system, also marked a major milestone for both the company and the country.

Battery storage systems are expected to become increasingly prevalent as costs decrease, allowing for greater integration into Mozambique’s energy mix. Globeleq envisions a future where solar generation, combined with storage systems, will play a crucial role in meeting the country’s growing energy needs, particularly for industrial customers seeking more sustainable and resilient power solutions.

Looking ahead, Globeleq is also positioning Mozambique as a potential regional power supplier to countries like South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, which face electricity shortages. This strategic focus on exports, along with domestic electricity generation and transmission infrastructure development, aims to reinforce Mozambique’s energy independence and economic growth.

In the next five years, Globeleq plans to double its portfolio in Mozambique, expanding both the CTT gas project and the Temane transmission line while continuing to explore opportunities for renewable energy and battery storage integration. Their commitment to sustainability, partnerships, and a stable investment climate are key to their success in the country’s growing energy sector.
