The Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) has announced the choice of four preferred bidders to develop two solar projects of 30 MW each, to be located in the Manje Administrative Post and the Chimbunila district, in the provinces of Tete and Niassa, respectively.
According to information published on the SolarQuarter website, these projects were tendered to independent energy producers in November 2022, and cover the complete development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of each solar installation.
The bidders (TotalRenewables Energies, ACWA Power Company, JCMPower Corporation, Voltalia S.A) were selected through a public tender led by ARENE, under the programme for the Promotion of Renewable Energy Auctions (PROLER).
Recently, Hidroléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) signed a cooperation agreement for the development of a solar power plant of up to 400 MW located in the Changara district, Tete province, central Mozambique, an infrastructure that will contribute to the supply of renewable energy in the country.
The construction of solar power plants will contribute to achieving the commitment made by the Mozambican government at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) to generate 62 per cent of the country’s energy from renewable sources by 2030.
