The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) revealed on Monday 6 November that the preparation of its Contingency Plan for the 2023-24 rainy season is in its final stages and will be known and approved shortly.
Speaking during the 4th ordinary session of the Technical-Scientific Commission on Climate Change, a meeting run by the MTC, the institution’s spokesman, Genito Maúre, said that it was not possible to produce the document before the start of the rainy season, but that all the work is already being done.
“The Plan is already in its final stages. At the moment, only a few recommendations are being attached. We couldn’t do it before, because we couldn’t react to something we didn’t know where it was going to happen. The document was drawn up taking into account the logistical issue of how many people might be affected,” he explained.
The Technical-Scientific Committee on Climate Change met to discuss various issues, including the impact of natural disasters, the rainy season already underway in the country and the issue of early warning. The session also served to share experiences with Madagascar in managing extreme weather events.
