The provincial chief prosecutor in Nampula, Osvaldo Rafael, says that a case regarding the illegal detention of a customs officer is under investigation.
Rafael however said he could not provide details about the progress of the case because it is already in the courts.
“We have already communicated to the media through the Communication and Image Office of the Prosecutor’s Office. They have a specific office and spokespersons there. They are the ones who can address any matters concerning the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Nampula,” Rafael insisted.
“While it is true that I represent the institution, for communication and image purposes, there is an appropriate office and spokesperson,” he further clarified.
When asked if the prosecutor’s office had already received a response regarding the request made to the police in this case, Rafael explained that “the investigation is secret, and we adhere to the principle of judicial secrecy.”
Rafael also stated that “while this case is under investigation and until there is a trial, we cannot comment on any steps or any aspect related to the case, as we would risk violating the principle of judicial secrecy and the procedural matter of confidentiality in the preparatory investigation, which is secret”.
