The PRM has announced the opening of a criminal investigation into those responsible for the assassination of Anselmo Vicente, political coordinator of the party Anamola, a political formation led by former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane.
According to the Mozambique Information Agency, the crime took place on Saturday (9) in the city of Chimoio, in Manica Province, when Anselmo Vicente was shot dead by still unidentified attackers in the Madrinha area, near National Road Number 6 (N6).
According to Mouzinho Manasse, spokesperson for the PRM, the case has already been forwarded to the Procuradoria-Geral da República (PGR) for further investigations.
“We received this case and the investigation has been underway since we became aware of the incident. Some evidence has already been collected at the crime scene, and we believe the case will be solved,” he said.
The official explained that the criminals were travelling in a red double-cabin Isuzu vehicle when they opened fire on Vicente.
“The coordinator was pronounced dead in the intensive care unit of the Provincial Hospital of Chimoio after suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen and did not survive his injuries,” Manasse stated.
The spokesperson added that the police are investigating the case to identify the individuals responsible for the killing.
“We appeal for calm and serenity and ask for the cooperation of the public in identifying and holding criminally responsible those involved in this act,” he concluded.
